When working with reluctant readers the last thing they want to hear in the summer is read this book and answer these questions. I decided to techie-fy my summer tutoring by incorporating Flipgrid into our routine! I am hoping this will make my reluctant readers enjoy reading more. 🙂
How does it work?
My student and I meet weekly to work on various reading skills. Part of the homework component to tutoring is that we are both reading the same book at the same time. Flipgrid allows the student to answer questions verbally by making a video that is a minute and a half or less in length. Students are encouraged to write down their answers before they do their video so they know what they are going to say but it isn’t required. 🙂
Our current book is Mr. Cooper Is Super! by Dan Gutman. Even my most reluctant readers love this book series (especially boys)! Each week I post questions for the chapters we are reading on our flipgrid and the student and I can communicate back and forth with each other. I also have my daughters participating to make the experience more interactive.
